As a satellite communications organization, we touch a multitude of industries all around the world, one of which is the constantly evolving farming and agriculture industry.
A lot of farms nowadays make use of agricultural IoT devices to boost their automation processes and increase their overall profitability. Farm operatives need capable tracking tools for a number of reasons including accurate weather predictions, remotely monitoring crop health, and large-scale mapping using satellite imagery.
Our established position within the satellite communications market and years of expertise and experience allows us to offer solutions to a wealth of potential problems.
Asset trackers used in the wilds of Kazakhstan
With a range of satellite asset trackers that include integrated antenna while operating over globally-reaching networks, we are able to cater to the needs of farm management operations. Our asset tracking solutions are cost-effective and let users track the location of valuable equipment and livestock. They enable smart agriculture, giving farm operatives the ability to take control of their business with real-time alerts so that they can act immediately.
In 2020 our asset trackers were put to the test when 600 Globalstar SmartOne C satellite asset trackers were used by GPSOne, a Kazakhstan-based provider of satellite tracking services, to monitor the location of some of the country’s wild horses. These satellite-enabled devices sent GPS coordinates via the Globalstar Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network where the horses’ locations could then be seen on GPSOne’s mapping software. The project was so much of a success that GPSOne went on to purchase several thousand more devices.
Super-charged satellite internet terminals for rapid data sending and automation
Today’s farmers and farms demand constant and continuous streams of reliable, remote internet connection for aspects like field monitoring systems, automated irrigation, crop management and farm vehicle power consumption. Intelligent IoT systems can be set up through the use of our cost-effective satellite M2M devices while Iridium, Kymeta, and Thuraya (to name a few) provide high-speed internet access. Capable of measuring the basic temperature and humidity levels, to more sophisticated things like J1939 standards which monitor and control diesel engine applications that power fixed or mobile equipment.
Keep tabs on your most important assets with satellite tracking solutions
An invaluable tool for any farmer nowadays is the ability to remotely check in on assets, regions and vehicle routes. GPS tracking of farming equipment, gear and livestock ensures vehicles and animals are where they should be at all times. Tracking history also enables farm management to see where their vehicles have been, allowing them to assess whether they have driven on the most efficient route. Our satellite tracking solutions deliver uncompromising levels of connectivity and reliability, offering increased productivity levels and peace of mind.
Contain your conversations to simple two-way radios
Mobile phone signal in rural areas is famously unreliable, which is why more and more land-owners and farmers are turning to two-way radio communication. It allows for a private, instant, efficient connection line where it normally wouldn’t be possible. An Iridium Push-To-Talk device, for example, lets users communicate to many people at once over a low-latency network, saving time and increasing productivity. Their SOS functionality also makes them essential when emergency strikes.
The agricultural industry is littered with risk and uncertainty where things like the theft of vehicles or the health and wellbeing of livestock play enormous parts. They make up a small amount of important elements that need to be monitored – and can be – using satellite tracking technology. For farm operatives, being able to remotely track valuable assets like machinery and animals offers the peace of mind needed to keep their businesses alive.
